BE KIND, REWIND. Every VHS tape, every Blockbuster rental, every movie you borrowed from a friend. If you forgot to rewind, you were an animal.
Friday night was Blockbuster night. The whole family would go. You had maybe forty minutes to pick your movies before someone got impatient. The new releases wall was a warzone. If the box was on the shelf but there was no tape behind it, the disappointment was crushing.
Late fees were real. Blockbuster made more money on late fees than on rentals. I am convinced that at least ten percent of my parents' income went to Blockbuster late fees in the 1990s.
