when the ice cream truck was the highlight of summer

·

You could hear the music from three blocks away. That tinny version of Turkey in the Straw getting louder and louder. Every kid on the street would freeze, then sprint for the house screaming 'MOM I NEED A DOLLAR.'

The truck had pictures on the side of treats that never looked anything like what you actually got. The Bomb Pop was always lopsided. The ice cream sandwich was always half-melted. It didn't matter.

Fifty cents got you a Fudgsicle and that was the best fifty cents you would ever spend. Standing in the driveway, chocolate dripping down your arm, not a single thing in the world to worry about.
