when Saturday morning cartoons were appointment television

You set your alarm for 6am on the one day you did not have school, poured yourself a bowl of cereal, and planted yourself three feet from the TV. Cartoons ran from 6 to noon and that was the only time you could watch them. Period.

No DVR. No streaming. No YouTube. If you missed an episode of Thundercats, it was gone. Maybe you would catch the rerun in summer. Maybe not.

By noon the cartoons were over and the TV switched to golf or old westerns, which was the universe telling you to go outside. And you did, because there was literally nothing else on.
